Laser resurfacing may be Ablative where the upper layers of skin are completely removed. Fractional Laser Resurfacing is the latest technology where tiny islands of skin are removed from the skin with normal skin in between the laser pulses. As the laser treatment appears as tiny dots or pixels on the skin, it is also called PIXEL Laser resurfacing. Fractional Laser resurfacing is very safe with minimal down time and is the preferred treatment of choice for post acne scars.

It also ensures uniform delivery of laser energy from first laser shot to the last laser shot ensuring better results (laser energy wanes from first shot to the last shot with most of the other lasers). Duration of the laser pulse can be altered (only available in Fotona lasers) to fine tune the treatment for excellent results.

Is sunprotection necessary after laser resurfacing?

Physical avoidance of sunexposure by covering the treated areas while in sun or use of a sunscreen with high SPF is required for 1-2 weeks after fractional laser resurfacing.

How many sittings are required?

Generally 2-4 sittings with a gap of 4-8 weeks between the treatments may be required for good improvement.
